Vaal Dam

The Vaal Dam in South Africa was constructed in 1938 and lies 77 km south of OR Tambo International Airport. The lake behind the dam wall has a surface area of about 320 square kilometres (120 sq mi) and is 47 meters deep. The Vaal Dam lies on the Vaal River, which is one of South Africa's strongest-flowing rivers. Other rivers flowing into the dam are the Wilge River, Klip River, Molspruit and Grootspruit. It has over 800 kilometres (500 mi) of shoreline and is South Africa's second biggest dam by area and the fourth largest by volume.

Our Top 5 Vaal River carp fishing spots 

In this video, we pay tribute to our top 5 Vaal River fishing spots. We've visited about a dozen places along the Vaal River to go carp fishing and in our opinion, these were our favourites. We obviously haven't been everywhere, these are just the places we have been to in the Parys \ Potchefstroom area. And we must also just make it clear that we do not camp anymore after a series of bad experiences ranging from theft to storms, so all of these places have either chalets or houses to stay in.

Vaal Dam 4 (at 100%) 

The Vaal Dam reached 100% capacity on 27/2/2017 at around 09h00. This video shows the dam at capacity and compares clips from previous videos in the series. 30 October 2016 the Vaal Dam was at 26%, its lowest level since 2011, the last time when it was full.
